Frequently Asked Questions

Handmade sugar rose & petalsBelow are answers to some frequently asked questions but please feel free to contact me if you have a question that isn’t answered here.

When should I order my wedding cake?
It is never too early to place an order and secure the date for your cake.  I regularly take orders for the following year and recommend you contact me at least six months before your wedding. With Spring and Summer being the busiest time, I will always do my utmost to accommodate all orders, even those with a short lead time (please note that the Two-Months-To-Mature Brand Fruit Cake does indeed take a minimum of two months).

What happens at a wedding cake consultation?
Should you wish to commission a bespoke wedding cake from Raspberry Ribbon Cakes, I will schedule a mutually convenient date for a complimentary wedding cake consultation and tasting either at your home, if you are local to Horsham, or at the reception venue. It is a relaxed and informal chat with me to discuss how the details of the wedding can influence your cake design so that we can work together to create your perfect wedding cake. Please bring along anything that might inspire your cake design such as fabric / lace / ribbon swatches, a picture of your flowers or an example of wedding stationery. You will also have the chance to sample your four preferred flavours and fillings (apart from fruit cake which is made to order for your wedding day). A wedding cake consultation is for a maximum of 3 people, is free of charge and can last up to an hour so your punctuality is very much appreciated.

Everyone leads a busy life, especially when planning a wedding, so if you need to reschedule your consultation please provide at least 48 hours notice as tasting cakes are made especially for the consultation.  Those cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment can rebook at a cost of £35  (£25 is redeemable against the cost of your cake).

Can I collect my cake?
Cakes can be collected from my Horsham kitchen and will be available to transport in a strong cake box along with storage and cutting instructions. Please note that Raspberry Ribbon Cakes is not liable for any damage to the cake once it has left the kitchen.

Can you deliver my cake?
A limited number of local deliveries are possible so advance booking is highly recommended. Set up and delivery is free within a ten mile radius and, beyond this, a set up and delivery charge will be calculated depending on distance.

What are dummy tiers and cutting cakes?
A dummy tier is not edible but adds height and grandeur to your wedding cake (your guests won’t know the difference) and is ideal for more intimate weddings when you still want to have a dramatic cake. Cutting cakes are iced the same as the wedding cake and kept with the caterers to simplify the cutting process – ideal if you have lots of guests.

Do you provide fresh flowers?
I leave this job to the experts and ask that your florist provides non-toxic blooms that are consistent with your chosen wedding flowers. Alternatively, I can create beautiful handmade sugar flowers which can be kept as a lasting reminder of your special day.

What is the price of your wedding cakes?
Please take a look at the Portions & Prices page to help guide you.

The number and/or size of tiers can be varied to accommodate fewer or more guests at your wedding and I am very happy to discuss your requirements and the budget you have in mind.

Miniature cakes, cupcakes and wedding favour cookie prices are shown on the website.

What are your payment terms?
When placing your order, I ask for:

  • a non-refundable deposit of  £100 to secure the date 0f your wedding cake paid by bank transfer
  • the outstanding balance is due one month before delivery or collection paid by bank transfer
  • full payment by bank transfer is required for orders with less than 4 weeks’ notice before delivery or collection

Unfortunately I cannot accept payment by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.
