Below are answers to some frequently asked questions but please feel free to contact me if you have a question that isn’t answered here.
When should I order my wedding cake?
I regularly take orders 12 months in advance and recommend you contact me at least six months before your wedding. With Spring and Summer being the busiest time, I will always do my utmost to accommodate all orders, even those with a short lead time (please note that the Two-Months-To-Mature Brand Fruit Cake does indeed take a minimum of two months).
What happens at a wedding cake consultation?
Should you wish to commission a bespoke wedding cake from Raspberry Ribbon Cakes, I will schedule a mutually convenient date for a complimentary wedding cake consultation and tasting either at your home, if you are local to Horsham, or at the reception venue. It is a relaxed and informal chat with me to discuss how the details of the wedding can influence your cake design so that we can work together to create your perfect wedding cake. Please bring along anything that might inspire your cake design such as fabric / lace / ribbon swatches, a picture of your flowers or an example of wedding stationery. You will also have the chance to sample your four preferred flavours and fillings (apart from fruit cake which is made to order for your wedding day). A wedding cake consultation is for a maximum of 4 people and is free of charge.
Everyone leads a busy life, especially when planning a wedding, so if you need to reschedule your consultation please provide at least 48 hours notice as tasting cakes are made especially for the consultation. Those cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment can rebook at a cost of £35 (£25 is redeemable against the cost of your cake).
Can I collect my wedding cake?
I’m afraid it is not possible to collect wedding cakes from my Horsham kitchen. All wedding cakes are delivered, assembled and dressed at the wedding reception venue on the day of the wedding.
Can you deliver my wedding cake?
Yes, this is part of our service. Set up and delivery is free within a ten mile radius and, beyond this, a set up and delivery charge will be calculated depending on distance. Once the cake has been set-up and signed for, full responsibility for the wedding cake likes with the caterer/venue and Raspberry Ribbon Cakes is not liable for any damages thereafter.
What are dummy tiers and cutting cakes?
A dummy tier is an additional iced tier of your cake which is not edible but adds height and grandeur to your wedding cake (your guests won’t know the difference) and is ideal for more intimate weddings when you still want to have a dramatic cake. Cutting cakes are square cakes in the same style as the wedding cake, but without any intricate decoration, that are handed directly to your caterers and kept out of sight to simplify the cutting process – ideal if you have lots of guests.
Do you provide fresh flowers for the wedding cake?
I leave this job to the experts and ask that your florist provides non-toxic blooms that are consistent with your chosen wedding flowers. Alternatively, I can create beautiful handmade sugar flowers which can be kept as a lasting reminder of your special day.
What is the price of your wedding cakes?
Every wedding cake is different so please note that I am unable to send you a standard price list. If you have a particular style of cake in mind, I am very happy to email you a quote.
The number and/or size of tiers can be varied to accommodate fewer or more guests at your wedding and I am very happy to discuss your individual requirements.
Miniature cakes, cupcakes and wedding favour cookie prices are shown on the website.
What are your payment terms?
When placing your order, I ask for:
- a non-refundable deposit of £100 (paid by bank transfer) to secure the date 0f your wedding cake
- the outstanding balance (paid by bank transfer) is due one month before the date of your wedding
- full payment (by bank transfer) is required for orders with less than 4 weeks’ notice before the date of your wedding
Unfortunately I cannot accept payment by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.
